2025/26 SHA Volunteer
Volunteer Registration Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions govern your participation as a volunteer with Sarnia Hockey Association. By volunteering, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these terms
- Volunteer Role and Responsibilities:
a) Specific Roles come with Specific Duties and Responsibilities. Those duties and responsibilities can be found here: https://sarniahockey.com/Manuals/18219/SHA_Policy_Procedures_and_Regulations/
b) Duties - You agree to perform the duties associated with your assigned role to the best of your ability, in accordance with the rules and regulations of Sarnia Hockey Association, Alliance Hockey, the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada.
c) Time Commitment - You agree to commit to the time requirements associated with your role, including attending practices, games, meetings, and other events as required.
d) Communication - You agree to maintain open and effective communication with coaches, team managers, players, parents, and other volunteers.
e) Certifications - If required for your role, you agree to obtain and maintain necessary certifications, such as Coaching Certification, Trainers Certification, Respect in Sport Activity Leader, etc.
2. Code of Conduct:
a) Respect - You agree to treat all players, coaches, officials, parents, volunteers, and spectators with respect and dignity, regardless of their age, gender, race, religion, or ability.
b) Sportsmanship - You agree to always promote good sportsmanship and fair play.
c) Positive Environment - You agree to contribute to a positive and supportive environment for all participants.
d) No Harassment or Abuse - You agree to refrain from any form of harassment, abuse (physical, verbal, or emotional), or discrimination.
e) Social Media - You agree to conduct yourself responsibly on social media, refraining from posting content that is disrespectful, offensive, or harmful to the reputation of Sarnia Hockey Association and its governing bodies.
f) Privacy - You agree to respect the privacy of players and their families, and to refrain from sharing personal information without consent.
3. Safety and Risk Management:
a) Safety First - You agree to prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants.
b) Emergency Procedures - You agree to familiarize yourself with and follow emergency procedures.
c) Injury Reporting - You agree to report any injuries or incidents to your Division Director immediately
d) Equipment - When applicable, you agree to ensure that players are using properly fitted and approved equipment.
e) Background Check/Screening - You agree to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check as required by the Ontario Hockey Federation. Failure to pass the background check may result in the termination of your volunteer position. Failure to complete the Ontario Hockey Federation Vulnerable Sector Screening Process will result in you being removed as a Volunteer with SHA for the current season. 4. Liability and Insurance:
a) Acknowledgement of Risk - You acknowledge that participation in hockey involves inherent risks of injury.
b) Release of Liability - To the extent permitted by law, you release Sarnia Hockey Association, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers, and agents from all liability for any injuries or damages that may arise from your participation as a volunteer.
c) Insurance Coverage - By completing this registration and all requirements for rostering you will be covered under Hockey Canada’s Membership which includes basic Insurance Coverage. While as a Volunteer you are covered under this insurance, it is a secondary policy, and you are encouraged to maintain your own personal insurance coverage.
5. Confidentiality:
a) You agree to maintain the confidentiality of any sensitive information you may encounter during your volunteer role, including player information, team strategies, and disciplinary matters.
6. Termination of Volunteer Role:
a) Sarnia Hockey Association reserves the right to terminate your volunteer role at any time for any reason, including but not limited to violation of these Terms and Conditions, misconduct, or failure to meet the requirements of your role.
b) You may terminate your volunteer role by providing written notice to SHA President, Paul Walsh.
7. Governing Law:
a) These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the Procedures and Policies laid out by Sarnia Hockey Association, Alliance Hockey, the Ontario Hockey Federation and Hockey Canada.
By registering for and participating in these evaluations, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
